The Update of the Summer.
Quite an audacious title, but due to neglect in marketing efforts [do you even know me?] we haven't sent out an update in quite some time - so it really is our update of the summer. We'll try to get everyone up to speed with our happenings without too much fluff.
I've got 5 drafts in my posts (since May!) that I just can't seem to finish. So instead, we're going to summarize our updates and leave out all of the technical jargon that I love to include so often.
It's been several months of efforts on improving Orbital features and running Call Center Village – but you'll have to wait a couple more days for me to finish the DEF CON 34 post-mortem... so let's talk about some quick housekeeping updates in the meantime.
We've also got an influx of (what looks like) legitimate sign-ups so if you're new here - welcome!

Call Center Village @ DEF CON 34
We just wrapped up running Call Center Village at DEF CON 34, including our Escalation Desk Voice CTF and what I would consider a pretty successful Party Line celebration. This is our testing ground for voice features and design where the best ideas eventually make their way into Orbital.

Congratulations to babagoosh for winning the combined Voice and Chat AI agent CTF, leveraging a custom-built social-engineering harness to kick our AI voice-agent's cans.

* - We're still working on our DC34 post-mortem article, so it might be several days before that's actually available.
Office Hours & Scripting Sessions
We're making some fundamental changes to the content of our Scripting Sessions, effectively immediately. Instead of solely focusing those training sessions on Amtelco scripting, we're going to focus them on the creation and usage of voice tools, frameworks, and open-weight models that we use in both Orbital and Call Center Village and how to harness them for your own benefit.
We will still provide Amtelco Intelligent Series scripting support and training during these sessions, but it will be on-demand at attendee request instead of by default.
Speaking of which, we're going to piggy-back onto this edition to include the remaining August 2026 Office Hours and Scripting Sessions schedule.

Orbital Licensing Updates
Speaking of Orbital, we're again making changes to our approach on licensing. While I don't have the specific details ready for disclosure, we've decided on:
- Using a real-world open-source license, likely with copyleft protections. Not one we make up or try to forge into something it isn't.
- Build our services around support, like a traditional open-source business plan might suggest.
Luck you, I suppose.
I confirmed (yet again) that I would rather give away something cool that I build than spend any effort using sales and marketing tactics that I don't enjoy myself. Plus, it gets more eyeballs [and robots] looking at it.
Networking at BSides Las Vegas, Skytalks, and DEF CON really cemented this decision [to open source things] after Jay and I talked it through several weeks ago and decided we aren't sales people. Could you imagine me trying to sell you a big-ticket sales item? I can't even sell you a pen.
Call Theory "Power Up" Plan Retirement
After careful consideration, we've decided to to remove our $250/mo Power Up - Digital Resources plan from our Call Theory subscription offerings, effective immediately.
Our $450/mo Level Up - Technical Support and Enterprise/Managed Services plans are still available to support the Amtelco ecosystem and we have no plans on the horizon to change this.
Customers currently on our Call Theory Power Up - Digital Resources plan at the $250/mo rate will continue to be honored for the lifetime of their subscription. However, no new sign-ups will be offered.
Promises, Promises
I'll have the marketing updates done shortly (along with our DEF CON post-mortem over at the Call Center Village blog) including:
- Screenshots
- Architecture
- Features
- Voice Demos
- Installation Instructions
- Roadmap
Side note: Doing static "voice demos" is tough. What's your favorite way to receive them? Recordings of a call? Live interactive demos? Videos breaking down the interaction? Something else?
We tested Orbital features and stability at Wiscon in Madison, WI and DEF CON in Las Vegas, NV and we're excited to bring Orbital everywhere shortly.
While we've been slow walking this for a bit due to on my inability to choose a software license, I'm ready to move on and push Orbital forward into a world-class call center and answering service agent exchange platform.
We'll have another update next week!
