Scripting Session Updates
This weeks Scripting Session has been cancelled - but also, videos are coming.
This week's message will be primarily scheduling and feedback-updates:
- Tuesday, July 16th, 3pm Eastern - Office hours for call centers
- Thursday, July 18th - Scripting Sessions this week are Cancelled!
I have the opportunity to attend a family member's Basic Training graduation - and Thursday is Family Day.
We'll be signing our solider out around the time we would be doing the scripting session. We will be back the following week.

The Feedback Loop
The feedback I've heard most recently about scripting sessions has been the need for the following:
- An available reference script for each session
- Video training for easier and ongoing reference
- Assessments should be actual (graded) tests of knowledge
The first and third items I'm working on and expect to have available for the next time we begin Basic training again (currently September 19th per updated schedule.)
For videos, it's not making the video that's hard: it's hosting the video(s).
There's a reason that YouTube and a few other major players have most of the market share: video playback takes up tons of bandwidth that is hard to justify unless you hit a certain level of scale (or use one of the aforementioned providers.)
For example, just dumping gigabytes of videos onto my server for customers to watch on-demand would require me to raise pricing - something I don't love.
Instead, I'm thinking of leveraging YouTube to publicly post the training videos. I'm still searching for more economical options because, well: I don't love relying on YouTube.
Assuming I can't find another option, the YouTube videos would have these properties:
- Non-monetized - No commercials or ads, similar to FreeCodeCamp
- Comments disabled - YouTube comments are some of the worst in general.
- Description would include a link to the Call Theory portal where the video, script, and supplemental documentation would be available for paying customers.
This also provides marketing in the form of useful training for anyone to discover and consider us for future paid training. Plus, YouTube (last I checked) forbids hiding videos behind paywalls, so this keeps me on the up-and-up.
But I hear you: Videos are coming.
If you've got any more feedback on the points mentioned above, please hit reply and let me know!
